Capital Campaign Planning Study and Preparation

The Challenge

This historic house museum, anticipating a major capital campaign, sought a plan to prepare its Trustees, staff, and current supporters.

The Approach

Carter Consulting Group served as principal consultant in a team charged with evaluating the current development program, assessing interest in support for restorations to the historic structures, renovation of historic gardens, the creation of a new visitors welcome facility, and the addition of educational facilities.

Ms. Carter analyzed the current donor base and recommended immediate expansion of local private foundation relationships. In preparation for the interviews, we assisted in creating a preliminary case statement, created gift opportunities and a range of giving pyramids.

Ms. Carter conducted a Campaign Planning Study, including confidential interviews with notable philanthropists regarding their relationships with the organization.

With the findings from the study we prepared a campaign plan and timeline, including step by step actions to prepare for and execute a plan.

To increase annual support we made a number of recommendations to engage donors more personally, and ways to convey the unique opportunities for experiencing Tudor Place. Specific strategies to entice current supporters to give more were included.

Several steps were outlined for more thorough preparation for the campaign, along with a detailed timeline.

We also created a structure and plan to launch the recruitment of additional Trustees, and Campaign Leadership.

The Result

Pointed in the direction for success!

Trustees have heartily endorsed the campaign and hired the organization’s first Director of Advancement. Connections to prospective supporters and campaign leadership are being activated and pursued. New skills and networks are being incorporated with the Board of Trustees.
